Planning an Inspection Trip

Arranging Your Flight

The Coast

Malev Airlines are now operating from London and fly direct into Varna (Northern Coast), all year round, you can book via their website.

There are many flights to the coast from April to October, Balkan Holidays fly from many UK regional airports in this period direct to Burgas (Southern Coast) and Varna.

There are many scheduled flights going into Sofia each day, try ebookers.co.uk or expedia.co.uk.

Arriving in Sofia you will need to get an internal flight to the Coast, Hemus Air fly a daily service between Sofia and Varna. This flight can be booked with us. Please contact us to arrange this. However, you may need to stay over in Sofia, depending on your arrival and departure times.

Getting From Sofia to the Coast by Land

Coach

We can recommend the Bulgarian coach service, they have modern coaches and the journey takes around 6 hours. We can book a ticket for you.

Car

You can book a hire car via or we can arrange it for you. The journey from Sofia to Varna at a reasonable speed will take 6 to 7 hours. Unless you are familiar with the roads or have someone with you who can read the Bulgarian Language then we strongly advise not to travel by night. Knowledge of the Cyrillic Alphabet will help you very much, not all road signs are in Latin style.

Getting to Bansko

It is a simple 3 hour journey from Sofia to Bansko, however, we do not advise to drive this at night if you are not familiar with the area.

Viewing Property

You can inform us before your visit of the properties that you wish to view. Please give us as much time as possible so we can make arrangements with the owners and prepare the best inspection trip for you. Also, please be aware that there are some periods of Bulgarian National Holidays, it will be difficult to view in these periods.

In Bulgaria, no property is sold with exclusive rights with one property agency, so if you have other properties that you wish to view, please inform us and we can also make the appropriate arrangements with the owners.

Money

There are many bank machines in the towns and obtaining money using your card is very easy.

The Bulgarian currency is the Leva, you can not get this from UK banks, however, because Bulgaria has been so popular for tourism recently, high street operators such as Thomas Cook and the like will be able to provide Leva. A small amount will be useful to take with you.

If you wish to purchase a property you will need to make a 10% deposit. It is best to take such large sums in the form of travellers cheques, they are safe and there are some offers available, LLoyds Bank offer commission free travellers cheques and if taken in Sterling you will not be charged any commission should you not use them.

You can take euros and exchange them for Leva in Bulgaria or use them to buy property. Property transactions are usually conducted in euros.

Legal Requirements

Please give yourself 2 days preferable 3 days to view property then allow 1 day to organise all the necessary legal work.

You will need to set up a Bulgarian Company if you are buying property with land, It is not complicated, it is very easy,  you need your passport and a company name. Our lawyer can do the rest for you.

You will need to set up a bank account, very easy, just some personal details are needed plus a copy of your passport.

You will need to give power of attorney to our agent or lawyer to conduct a property transaction on your behalf. Otherwise you will need to return to do this within 1 month.

Buying

Please remember you will need to take with you at 13% of the property value should you wish to take a property off the market on your visit. The remaining balance and notary fees and taxes can be transferred electronically to your Bulgarian bank account. It will take approximately 1 week.
